Overview

This program guides you on your 7-day Kilimanjaro climb via the Machame route. Machame route approaches Mt. Kilimanjaro from the southeast. You will therefore ascend from the southeast and descend through the Mweka route. The Machame route is comprised of beautiful scenes as you hike through it. After a Kilimanjaro climb, you will have a 3-day cultural tour to West Kilimanjaro, the Maasai in Arusha, and other vibrant tribes in northern Tanzania. Here is a detailed itinerary:

Itinerary

Our team will be waiting for you at the airport. You will be welcomed to Tanzania and transported to your hotel in Moshi. Feel free to share some stories and inquiries with our English-speaking guide as you drive to Moshi. Arrive at your hotel, receive a short brief from our guide, and spend the rest of your day relaxing your body after a long journey. You will have dinner and sleep at your lodge following your next day’s hike.

• Elevation: 5400ft. to 9400ft.
• Distance: 11 km
• Hiking time: 5-7 hours
• Habitat: Rainforest
Wake up early, make preparations for your hike including device packing, and get yourself ready for the hike. You will be taken to Machame Gate. Here, you will check in with the park officials and start your Kilimanjaro climb. The hike may be challenging as you start, especially in the lower down where you can find mud and slippery. You’ll hike to the Machame Camp where you’ll relax, eat dinner, and sleep.

• Elevation: 9400ft to 12,500ft
• Distance: 5 km
• Hiking time: 4-5 hours
• Habitat: Moorland
Wake up and have a hot breakfast from your chef. After breakfast, hike through the montane forest and enter the moorland zone. Embrace the glorious view on your way as you enter a valley and then into a ridge. You will camp at Shira Camp.

• Elevation: 12,500ft to 13,000ft
• Distance: 10 km
• Hiking time: 6-8 hours
• Habitat: Semi Desert
After breakfast, you will hike in the east direction leaving the Shira Plateau. You will continue hiking until you ascend on a ridge, and come to the first junction towards the peak of Kibo. Your hike will now lead to the southeast towards the Lava Tower (Shark Tooth). After passing the Lava Tower, you will come across the second junction that leads to the Arrow Glacier, which is at 16,000ft, and finally, you will drop to the Barranco Hut at (13,000ft). You will rest here, dine, and sleep overnight. This is an acclimatization day since the elevation you started with is almost the same as the one that you finished your hike with. This day helps you to get used to high altitude to maximize your summit success.

• Elevation: 13,00ft to 13,100ft
• Distance: 5 km
• Hiking time: 4-5 hours
• Habitat: Alpine Desert
After breakfast, you will hike from Barranco Camp through a steep ridge. You will continue hiking and cross the Barranco Wall and finally arrive at Karanga Camp. Here you will rest, dine, and stay overnight.

• Elevation: 13,100ft to 15,300ft
• Distance: 4 km
• Hiking time: 4-5 hours
• Habitat: Alpine Desert
After breakfast, you will hike from Karanga Camp leaving the junction to the Mweka Trail, and then you continue to the Barafu Camp. At this point, you have completed the South Circuit. You will camp early at Barafu in preparation for the summit attempt that will start shortly at midnight.

• Elevation: 15,300ft – 19,345ft – 10,000ft
• Distance: 5 km ascent/12 km descent
• Hiking time: 7-8 hours ascent/4-6 hours descent
• Habitat: Arctic
At midnight (around 00:30 a.m.) you will be awakened by your mountain guide to prepare for the summit attempt. After getting ready, you will start ascending. You will hike passing the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, then change your direction to the northwest towards Stella Point (18,600ft). At this point, the trek becomes very challenging both physically and mentally. You will be taking frequent but short rests to gain energy to finish your trek. You will be rewarded with a wonderful sunrise as you hike through the snow towards the Uhuru Peak. You will finally be stepping on the roof of Africa.
You will enjoy some moments at the summit such as taking photos, and then start the descent to Mweka Hut. You will stop at Barafu Camp for lunch, and then continue to Mweka Camp, which is situated in the upper forest. We will enjoy our last dinner and overnight sleep at this camp.

• Distance: 10 km
• Hiking time: 3-4 hours
• Habitat: Rainforest
After breakfast, you will continue to descend through the rainforest. After arriving at Mweka Gate, you will collect your summit success certificates and continue your hike to the Mweka Village where a vehicle will be waiting for you. You will be transferred back to your lodge in Moshi. End of trek.
Upon arriving at your lodge, you will relax your body by soaking it up in a swimming pool or massaging it. You will eat dinner and sleep overnight while preparing for the next adventure.

After breakfast, travel to the west of Mt. Kilimanjaro where you will find West Kilimanjaro. You will spend a full day with the vibrant communities. Visit a Maasai boma to learn many things that these people practice. You will be guided by an English-speaking Maasai guide to immerse you in the heart of the local life of such vibrant people. You can also go for a game ride in West Kilimanjaro that will meet you with wild animals such as elephants, lesser kudus, striped hyenas, bat-eared foxes, and gerenuks. You will return to your hotel in Moshi for dinner and an overnight stay.
West Kilimanjaro is located on the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro and is endowed with wildlife as well as the Maasai communities who coexist with wild animals without compromising. This land is leased by the Maasai communities as their homeland, and they coexist with the wild animals.

After breakfast, travel to the Maasai villages in Arusha. You will enjoy sharing the experience of life with such vibrant communities. The Maasai are good at crafting handmade products such as sandals, jewelry, beads, and necklaces. Get yourself dressed in a Maasai style and enjoy key moments with them. You may be luckier to enjoy traditional performances that may be done at an extra cost. After visiting several Maasai villages in Arusha, you will head to Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay in a top-notch hotel.

After breakfast, you’ll leave the hotel for the Ngorongoro Crater. You will have a morning drive through this spectacular caldera while enjoying the views of wild animals including the Big Five. After lunch, you will drive to the Olduvai Gorge where you will meet the Maasai communities living in this area. At Olduvai Gorge also, you will learn more about the history of man in the Olduvai Museum. After an unforgettable experience, you will drive back to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Wake up early and get a breakfast ready for you after which, you will drive from Karatu to the Kilimanjaro International Airport. Depart to home. End of our services.

Day 13 :
Departure

This is your last day on your combo safari. We hope you enjoyed our itinerary from the Kilimanjaro climb to wildlife safari through Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater. Our driver will take you to the airport.

WEIGHT AND PORTERS

Clients are required to have a maximum of 15kg in their duffel bags. Due to the large increase in operational costs as a result of excess weight of clients’ luggage, we’ve had to resort to the following measures:

  • Extra weight of clients’ luggage – $6 per extra kg
  • Extra porter on the mountain (this is if a client requests) – $15 per porter per day
