6 Days Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Climb & 3 Days In Zanzibar

12 Days

Overview

Marangu route (also known as Coca Cola) is one of the oldest route of trekking the Kilimanjaro to the summit. It has a gentle slope and has beautiful scenery as you ascend through distinct vegetative zones. The minimum number of days to reach the summit through this route is five, but we advise you take a six-day itinerary to increase your summit success. On this six-day itinerary, you have an extra day for acclimatization to increase the success rate. After this six-day Kilimanjaro climb, we have drafted a three-day itinerary for you to relax in Zanzibar.

Itinerary

We advise you start your trip from anywhere in the globe to Kilimanjaro International Airport. We will have our team of English-speaking guides waiting for you at the time of your arrival. After a warm welcome from our team, you will then be transferred to your hotel in Moshi. This drive through 40 km is full of scenic views on the roadsides. When you arrive at your lodge, you may relax after a comprehensive brief from our guide.

• Elevation: 6,000ft – 9,000ft
• Distance: 7 km
• Hiking time: 4-5 hours
• Habitat: Montane Forest
Very early in the morning, our guide will be there waiting for you. After you finish setting everything ok including hiking gear, you will have a hot breakfast from your lodge before we leave for Kilimanjaro National Park. We will drive to Marangu Gate where you will clear everything up with the park officials and start your trek. Our trek will begin lower down on the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro that may be muddy and slippery. We will hike through the rainforest until we arrive at Mandara Hut where you will dine and sleep overnight.

 Distance: 11 km.
 Hiking time: 6–8 hours
 Habitat: Heath
After breakfast, we continue our trek through the rainforest, and then into the heath and moorland zones. As we hike through these vegetation zones, we start to observe sensational views of the two peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro and the town of Moshi. We will stop once on our way to have lunch and our journey will continue to Horombo Hut where we’ll rest, eat dinner and sleep overnight.

• Elevation: 12,100ft – 15,100ft (and back to 12,100ft)

To maximize your success rate of reaching the summit of Zanzibar, this day is meant for acclimatization. After breakfast, we hike through Zebra rocks until we arrive at Mawenzi Hut where you will eat lunch and start hiking back to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight stay.

• Elevation: 12,100ft – 15,400ft

After breakfast, we begin our hike from Horombo Hut through heath, and then into the alpine desert. We will hike pass the Saddle that connect the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi and finally hit Kibo Hut. On this day, you will have an early dinner and sleep early in preparation for the summit attempt up next at midnight.

We witness the sunrise at Mawenzi Peak, and then proceed with our hike for further 45 minutes until we arrive at the roof of Africa, the Uhuru Peak (5985m). You will enjoy the victory of climbing this majestic mountain to the top before we start our descent to Horombo Hut where we will eat dinner and sleep overnight.

• Distance: 18 km
• Hiking time: 5-7 hours

After breakfast, we continue with our descent through the montane forest and finally reach Marangu Gate where you will collect your summit certificates. From Marangu Gate, we will drive to your lodge. This will mark the end of your trekking safari, and the commencement of a relaxation safari in Zanzibar.

After breakfast, your body will be ready for a flight to Zanzibar to relax after the summit’s success. You will be taken to the airport for your flight to Zanzibar. At Zanzibar, you will meet our guide waiting for you at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, and you will be taken to your hotel/resort.

Day 9 :
Zanzibar

On your three-day stay in this idyllic island, you will get the chance to relax your body. Below are some other optional activities that you opt to take during your free time.
Stone Town tour & spice tour
The Stone Town’s major interesting parts are its narrow lanes, with its markets, mosques, Christian churches, Hindu temples, and two baobab trees. A spice tour is a guided tour in the countryside of the Island. While visiting the spice farms you will put to work all your senses, will see, test, guess, smell, and eat some of the local products and fruits.
Safari Blue
A safari blue is like but more than a day-out adventure and the classic Dolphin Tour. This excursion ideally permits you to explore the natural environment of explicitly Menai Bay. This is a peaceful way to end your memorable day. You will have your seafood served at a small private island only for you and in style (Transportation excluded)
Jozani forest Tour
A short drive to the Jozani Natural Forest reserve which is home to the red Colobus monkey that is endemic to Zanzibar. These Monkeys are very charming, friendly, and easy to take pictures of while you can watch them feeding and playing in the trees. You will have the opportunity to take a short walk into the forest to see different types of plants and tree species that still exist in this forest.
