Itinerary
This is the arriving day from your home country. Our guide will be waiting for you at the airport. Soon after your arrival you will meet with him, greet each other, and get transferred to your hotel in Arusha. There you will have a dinner and overnight while waiting for your next day of starting your hike.
Overnight: Arusha Coffee Lodge
Duration: 5-7 hours of hiking
This is your first day of hiking. You will wake up early and have a meal. After this meal, our guide will pick you from your hotel in Arusha (1400m) and drive you to the Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. Porters are available at this gate and you will give them some of your packs to help you. You’ll have to produce all required documents and credentials to the TANAPA official as you registered. Our guide will also help you pass the registration and after that you free to hike. The first day of hiking Mount Meru is similar to a walking safari, as there is small elevation. Arusha National Park is richer in wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffalo, and elephants that you will to encounter as you hike. An armed ranger will accompany you during your first hike to protect you from dangerous animals. The hike becomes so motivating when you reach the Ngarenanyuki River as it is very scenic. You will also come across with the breathtaking waterfall on the foot of Mount Meru. After a long hike, you will reach at Miriakamba Hut (2500). You will enjoy the views of sunset, a hot dinner from your chef, and overnight.
Duration: 3-5 hours of hiking
This second day of hike is challenging as you ascend through a steep trail through the saddle. You will encounter several animal species as you hike. Stunning views of Mount Meru Crater and Ashy Tray are experienced when hiking through this trail. You will reach the camp in the noon or late afternoon, have a meal, and you may hike to the Little Meru (3820) with your guide. This hike will help you adapt well with the hiking. In preparation for a sunrise on Mt. Meru’s summit, you will have an early dinner and sleep early.
Duration: 10-12 hours of hiking
You will be awaken in the midnight (0:30 a.m.) by your guide. After a hot tea and bites, your body will be energized and ready for the hike to the summit. You will start hiking at 1:30 a.m. and you will hike through Rhino Point (3800m), Cobra Point (4350m), and hike through the ridges of Mt. Meru’s crater as the dawn starts to show. After struggling with the hike for three days, you are now stepping on the highest peak of Mount Meru, the Reliant Peak (4566m). You can therefore enjoy the scenic views of Mt. Meru Ash Tray and distant views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. After enjoying it all, you will descend to Saddle Hut (3500) for a short break and breakfast or lunch. From here, you will further descend to Miriakamba Hut (2500m) for a dinner and overnight.
Duration: 2-3 hours of hiking
After you have enough rest following long hours of hiking, you will finally descend from Miriakamba Hut to Arusha. Your guide will take you to your lodge in Arusha for resting for the rest of the day. End of the hike.
Overnight: Arusha Coffee Lodge
Your day will start with an energy-giving breakfast. After breakfast, you can opt to fly to Zanzibar early in the morning or do that later. You will fly to Zanzibar and upon touching down at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, you will be received by our team and take you to your prepared accommodation.
