Chimpanzee Trekking Experience
- Trekking Setup: The trekking experience in Nyungwe National Park is similar to gorilla trekking in that you’ll be led by an experienced guide, but the environment is different. Chimpanzees are generally more active and often move between the trees, making the trek a bit more challenging.
- Trekking Duration: Depending on the location of the chimpanzee groups, the trek can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours to find them. Once you do, you’ll have a limited time (usually one hour) to observe the chimpanzees in their natural habitat. During this time, you’ll be able to witness their social behaviors, including grooming, playing, and communicating with each other.
- Group Sizes: Nyungwe offers chimpanzee trekking in groups, usually with a maximum of 8 people per trek for safety and environmental protection reasons.
